CREATIVE DEVELOPMENT MAY 2012 PARENT NEWS AND NOTES

Spring  has sprung and we are in full bloom around here.  Over the last several weeks we have observed so any beautiful changes in our neighborhood.  The trees and grass are turning green and many of the spring flowers have bloomed.  The vegetable garden has been prepared for planting and during the month of May we will be adding our veggies and herbs.

Mr Vice and I have been very  busy over the last three weekends cleaning and preparing the playgrounds.  Toys and equiptment have been checked and cleaned, the sand boxes have been washed and refilled and brand new mulch has been spread.  Please be sure to take a peek at our brand new Infant/Toddler playground.   The old swings have come down and in their place we have added a new climber, brand new playhouse , new sandbox, two new picnic tables and a new infant swing and slide.  The children and teachers are so happy with their new outdoor space and they are all especially enjoying outdoor play time each day.

MOTHER’S DAY CONTINENTAL BREAKFAST

Mother’s Day is right around the corner and we will be doing our Mother’s Day continental breakfast again this year.  Please sign up to come in on Wed, Thur, or Friday of next week between 7:00-8:30  to have a quick bite to eat with your child  and read a book together  before rushing into your busy day. We wish all of our Mom’s and Grandma’s the happiest Mother’s Day ever!

COMMUNITY SERVICE NEWS

Thank you all for the tremendous response to our Adopted Family for Easter.  Together we were able to provide them with  food and gift cards to help feed and cloth their family this Spring.

Thanks also to everyone who donated books to help start the library in Sri Lanka.  Between what we were able to collect at our center and throughout our community we collected well over 1,000 books for this cause.

Our last community service project for this year will be a Muscular Dystrophy Hop A Thon.  The toddler/two’s and our pre K children will be participating in this event rain or shine on Friday May 18th.  Donation envelopes will be coming home soon and need to be returned on or before that day.

KINDERGARTEN INFORMATION

As we turn our attention towards the end of this school year we are excited and happy to see our of our children doing so well.  We are of course also a little sad to see so many of our Pre-K students graduating, but we know that they are ready for all the fun and challenges of elementary education ahead. If you do have a child heading off to Trumbull Kindergarten next Fall please see the attached information to your email regarding the brand new full day program that the town of Trumbull is providing.

WELCOME

Please help us welcome the Rosenzweig Family, baby Abigail, mom Rebecca and dad Jeremy.

We are also so happy to welcome back Micah Houston with his brand new baby brother Silas, mom Melissa and dad Zachary.

Please also help us welcome back Connor Fulchino and Family. Connos younger sister Clare will be starting in our toddler classroom in mid-May.

PRE-K FIELD TRIP

Our preschool classroom will be taking a Field Trip to Trumbull Nature Center on Thursday May 31st.  We will be taking the bus and all children are invited to attend even if they are not enrolled on that day.   First Student Bus company has seat belts for every child.  If you would like your child to use their car seat as well, please send it in that morning, clearly labeled with your child’s name on both sides of the seat.

SUMMER VACATION INFORMATION NEEDED

At this time we are finalizing our summer children’s and teacher’s schedules.  Please let us know if you have a scheduled vacation planned so that our teachers can finalize their summer vacation plans as well.

We realize that children, whose parents are teachers and are out for the summer, will most likely need care prior to September4th.  Please let us know the dates that you will need head back to school so that we can be sure to adjust our end of August children and teachers schedules accordingly.

CREATIVEDEVELOPMENT APRIL 2012 PARENT NEWS AND NOTES

Happy Spring!  The birds are chirping, the spring plants and trees are beginning to bloom and we are all spending a lot more time outdoors. Science lessons are all around us and we don’t want to miss an opportunity to explore nature at its finest.  Please remember to send in appropriate outdoor clothing each day.  Hats and warmer winter jackets may still be needed off and on over the next few weeks and since we do not have full leaves on our trees yet we are  asking for sunblock for those unusually warm and sunny days that we have been experiencing lately.

 COMMUNITY SERVICE UPDATE

Thank you all for your generous response to last month’s community service collections.  We collected hundreds of books for the library in Sri Lanka and a good supply of items for the birthing kits for Haiti.  Please don’t forget that this Tuesday is the last day we will be accepting donations for our adopted  family for Easter.  We are still in need of several items.  Please take a look on the list in your child’s classroom and any help at all will be greatly appreciated. Once we have everything together we will be putting together one large family basket to bring to Sister Theresa Tremblay at the Daughters of Charity in Bridgeport.

PARENT CONFERENCES

We will be offering parent conferences during the week of April 23-27.  Please let your child’s teacher know if you would like to come in for a meeting and they will set up a time that works best for everyone.

APRIL SCHOOL BREAK

We know that many of you will be away during April school break.  If you haven’t already done so please let us know if your child will not be in school for one or more days the week of April 16-20. As always we will not be offering Early Care during that week.

MARCH 2012

PARENT NEWS AND NOTES

February flew by as usual.    Love was in the air and the children enjoyed sharing stories with us about all those they love and love them so dearly.  Our Valentine’s Day celebrations was filled with delicious and healthy goodies from our wonderful parents and everyone had a great time singing and playing Valentine songs and games.   In addition to learning about our hearts and our feelings, the children also enjoyed learning about how their bodies work and what they need to do to help keep them healthy.

Our in-school visitor dentist Dr. Kalendara, a former parent of one of our graduates, was here with us to do a child centered workshop on Dental Health.  She came with her dental hygienist and did a great job introducing the children to the importance of caring for the teeth. She sent home lots of goodies.  I am sure your children have shared some of what they learned with you already.

We had a wonderful turn out last month for Anne Meade’s presentation, “Helping Children Develop Intrinsic Behaviors”, she was amazing and we all walked away with a number of great tips to help children deal with their feelings.  We will definitely be inviting her back again soon.

March is such an exciting month.  With spring around the corner there are so many great learning experiences.  In our Pre-K classroom the children will be learning about wind, rain and rainbows.  The infants and toddlers/two’s curriculum is centered on the changing weather as well.  Lots of outdoor science experiences are planned.  Please don’t forget to send in rain boots and coat as needed.

TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE

This month we have a few very important community service projects to work on.  The first thing that we will be doing is putting together an Easter Basket for a family in need.   Items needed range from food and grocery store gift cards to clothing for the family that we are helping.  Please sign up to send in a gift item or gift card from the list in your child’s classroom.  Donations go directly to our good friend Sister Tremblay who runs the Daughters of Charity preschool, food bank and numerous other community service outreach programs.  Donations must be in by Monday April 2, 2012.

I am also going to be sending home a flyer that I just received in the mail with information about a fundraiser dance that will be coming up on March 23rd at the Italian Club in Bridgeport that will be held to raise funds to help Sister Theresa continue to provide child care to the neediest families in Bridgeport through the summer months.  The cost is $35.00 per person and includes dinner, dessert, wine, beer and soda.  You can’t beat that!  I will be putting together a table and we would love to have as many of you as possible join us.  This woman is a true angel who relentlessly works to help those most in need and with our help she can accomplish even more.

Another service project that we are collecting for over the next two months is books to start up a library in Sri Lanka.  My daughter’s boyfriend is from there and has people he knows working on building a library for the many unfortunate families of the area.  We will accept all book donations.  Children, adult books, fiction, nonfiction, educational and basically any genre of literature.  Gently used and new books of all kinds are needed.

And finally, Miss Eleanor, and her husband Dr. Garvey, have recently returned from Haiti where they went to prepare for his visit to perform surgeries next week.   They have asked if we could please let our families know of the tremendous need that still exists in Haiti and if they can count on our help to donate some desperately needed items.  The items collected will be shipped to a remote village in Haiti next month and will be used to put together “Birthing Kits”. The following items needed are:

          2 gallon zip locks bags

          Small bars of soap

          Small packs (10count) wipes

New or like new newborn size knit hats

New or like new newborn tee-shirts (onsies sleeveless or short sleeve only)

Flat sheets any size, color or pattern

          Wash cloths

          Receiving blankets

          Newborn size diapers.

The people of Marbial will be so grateful for anything you can give!  Please do whatever you can to help with this cause.  We will be accepting donations through the month of March and can be dropped off in our front hallway in the box labeled “Birthing Kits for Haiti”.

ENROLLMENT:

We are presently winding up enrollment for the upcoming school year.  I will be sending home confirmation of your child’s enrollment for that time based on the paperwork that you have provided to us.    Please look it over carefully and let me know right away of any changes that need to be made. We are doing another open house this weekend.  If you or someone you know is interested in placing their child with us for the summer and fall/spring of 2012/2013 please let them know that I will be here on Saturday from 11-3.  At this time we have very limited availability in our infant/toddler classrooms and have only a few full time openings left in Pre K.

FEB 2012

PARENT NEWS AND NOTES

2012 has gotten off to a great start! The not too white winter weather hasn’t stopped us from having many amazing winter experiences.  Throughout the month of January, the children have been exploring winter weather and discovering and learning about animals in winter.  February curriculum will be filled with loads of love and learning as well.  Love for themselves and also for others.  The children in all classrooms will be learning about their bodies and how to keep them as healthy as possible.  Nurse Donna will be coming in to do a workshop with our toddlers and pre-k children called “Keeping Our Bodies Healthy”, and dentist, Dr. Kalendra, a former  parent, will be here to teach a class on dental  hygiene with them as well.  Our hearts are not just for keeping us healthy, they are full of love and we will also be learning about ways to share and express our heartfelt feelings for others.

FEBRUARY PARENT/TEACHER WORKSHOP

Our Educational Consultant, Anne Meade, from Early Care and Training Institute will be coming out to our center on Thursday Feb 16, 2012 to do a Parent/Teacher workshop on Behavior Management for 2-5 year olds. We have asked her to come right at 6PM in hopes that it will be easier for many of you to attend if we offer this a little earlier in the evening.  If you would like to attend and need care for your child during her session, please let us know! We may be able to get someone to come in and watch the children at the center while we are having the workshop.  If this is something that you are interested in please let us know right away so that we can try to arrange someone for an hours or so.

ANNUAL REGISTRATION UPDATE

Thank you all for your very timely response to our registration process.  At this time, we have limited availability for the Fall/Winter programs and ask that if you are planning on enrolling and have not done so already, please let us know right away.  Also, if you know of anyone in need of care for that time, please let them know that now is the time to register.  We will be holding an Open House on Saturday Feb 11 and Sat March 3rd from 11AM-3PM if you or anyone you know is interested.  As always, if you have any questions or concerns regarding your child’s placement for that time, please let us know so that we can set up a time to meet and discuss.

HEALTH UPDATE

Overall, we seem to be having a relatively healthy winter.  As many of you likely already know, the stomach bug has been going around and we have heard from several families and teachers that they have come down with it.  Please continue to help us keep the children and teachers of our center as healthy as possible by keeping your little ones home for at least 24 hours after their symptoms have subsided.  We all know how a bug like this can make us feel and just how much it can take out of us, so please don’t send the children back to school until they are feeling 100% better and ready to handle a normal active day with us.  Please remember to let us know if your child comes down with this or experiences any symptoms over the weekend, as we are trying to keep a list of children who haven’t gotten sick yet so that we can recognize symptoms in them as quickly as possible.

November News and Notes

CREATIVE DEVELOPMENT NOVEMBER 2011 PARENT NEWS AND NOTES

It’s hard to believe that we are almost half way through November. October was full of fun and interesting autumn learning experiences for everyone. Dr. Gerber was here for Back to School Evening and did a fun and informative Parent workshop on “Helping Children to Learn.” The children spent most of the month exploring the beautiful autumn weather through a variety of multi sensory nature experiences indoors and out. Trumbull Fire Department came to visit and helped us to teach the children about Fire Safety. Miss Rochelle did a fantastic job with our school photos, and if you have not already received yours they should be in by the end of this week. She will also be taking orders if anyone is interested in additional copies of photos. Let’s enjoy every last bit of this season, as we were all reminded just a few weeks ago, how very fast our weather can change. Let’s hope for a fairly mild winter. We deserve it!

TAG SALE/COSTUME PARTY

I would like to thank those families who braved the cold to come and help support our school with donations and by working our annual Tag Sale. Although we only earned a little over $200.00 we had a great turn out and a lot of fun working together. With our costume celebration and pizza party moved indoors it was wonderful to see so many of our little ones dressed up. They especially enjoyed playing with their friends and picking and painting their very own pumpkins from our indoor pumpkin patch. It’s always great to see our families get together and we were really happy that the snow didn’t keep anyone away. Read More »

October 2011
Parent News and Notes

Welcome Fall! With September behind us we are now full swing into the school year.  October is chock full of fun for everyone.  Due to weather predictions for last weekend our annual Tag Sale and Family Picnic has been rescheduled for Saturday October 29.  Since it is Halloween weekend, and so many families have other obligations that day we are going to set this up just a little differently than in the past.  We will run the tag sale from 8-2 only. This is the time when we see the most shoppers and with great advertising and lots of signs I think we can still do very well. We will still need volunteers for each hour to work the sale and ask that you sign up to help as soon as possible.  To make this day especially fun for the children we are going to be doing a costume parade and craft at 12 noon.  Pizza will be available for everyone at 1 PM and we are asking for volunteers to make some Autumn goodies that the children and parents will enjoy.  Please let us know right away if you will be attending and if you can help in anyway.

Thank you to those of you who have participated in our annual fundraiser.  We will be submitting the orders this week and will get the date for pick up out to you soon.

Don’t forget today and Friday are picture day! Check your email for details on the children who will be photographed each day!

CreativeDevelopmentKids.com

Welcome to the new web site for Creative Development. I asked Lorraine if I could write up a quick guide to the new site and highlight a few features.

We had two types of visitors in mind as we designed the new site: parents with children in the center, and visitors from the community who are evaluating their day care options.

For enrolled families, we’ve made it easier than ever to keep abreast of the happenings in our busy school. Here are the various ways you can stay in the loop.

For updates such as weather related updates, event reminders, special instructions and other quick news and alerts there are new options:

  • Facebook – From the home page, look for the facebook logo. If you are a facebook user, you can click through the logo to our Creative Development School facebook page. To receive updates from us, just click the ‘Like’ button on the top, and our updates will appear in your News Feed.
  • Twitter – If you are a Twitter user, you can follow Creative Development by clicking on the Twitter logo.
  • The Home Page – If you use neither facebook or Twitter, then you can always just visit us here. This is also where longer communications such as Parent News & Notes will appear.
  • Emails from us – We will still use email to communicate as we have historically (although emails may have more links than previously). Miss Lorraine’s email address is staying the same.
  • WTNH channel 8 – Weather related closing and delay information will still be broadcast via WTNH channel 8.
There is no need to check in all the places listed above – the information will be the same across all. Simply use whichever service is most convenient for you.

For families who are looking for childcare options, we have made the site highly findable via Google and other search engines. However if you are aware of families who might be interested, we encourage you to send them our web site address: www.creativedevelopmentkids.com

(NOTE: www.creativedevelopmentdaycare.com will continue to be a valid web site address. It will simple redirect here, to the new site.)

If you have questions specific to the web site, you can contact me via my own web site, iopendesign.com
